This guideline deals comprehensively with load securing for cars and lorries on road vehicles and will be an important benchmark for technology and safety in the future. This is particularly relevant for police checks and court proceedings.

Technical details and innovations

Thorsten Ludwig from TÜV Süd reported on the detailed tests that led to the new guideline. For example, the permissible deformation of the road plate was set at a maximum of three millimetres of plastic deformation. The height of the wheel chocks during car transport was also defined in order to ensure sufficient blocking force.

A remarkable new term that emerged in the process is the "coefficient of sliding friction", which describes the frictional forces between the road plate and tyre.
