Preliminary report IAA Transportation 2024

SpanSet at IAA 2024
IAA Transportation 2024 is just around the corner and promises to be a highlight of the event calendar. From September 17 to 22, 2024, the IAA Transportation in Hannover will showcase the latest trends and innovations in the commercial vehicle industry. As one of the leading trade fairs in this sector, IAA Transportation attracts thousands of professionals, exhibitors, and experts from around the world each year.

Key Themes
This year, SpanSet will once again be presenting at IAA Transportation under the motto Your Safety – Our Mission. SpanSet’s focus will be on “Securing Vehicles on Transporters”, the associated new VDI guideline 2700 sheet 8 ff., “High-Performance Fibers for Heavy-Duty Tie-Downs”, “Load Securing with Nets”, the updated Tie-Down Calculator App, and a presentation by product manager Werner Glasen.

CarFix and TruckFix – Securing Vehicles on Transporters

With the new version of CarFix and TruckFix, SpanSet addresses two critical points in load securing during vehicle transport. First, the efficiency of the force transmission of the tie-down strap between the fixed and loose ends through optimized strap controllers. Second, the hook that connects the tie-down strap with the road elements of the transport vehicle. This ensures as even a force distribution as possible in the tie-down systems, protecting the vehicle’s body panels.

With the new VDI guideline 2700 sheet 8, sheet 8.1, and sheet 8.2, new rules will apply from the day of publication for all vehicles traveling on German roads. SpanSet already meets all the new criteria set out in the VDI guideline with its Car/TruckFix products. The new guideline will come into effect on September 1, 2024.

Fig. 2: Heavy-Duty Tie-Down MaXafe

MaXafe - High-Performance Fibers for Heavy-Duty Tie-Downs

SpanSet offers a wide range of equipment for the secure transport of heavy loads. Especially when transporting heavy cargo such as tractors or construction machinery, securing the load at an angle or diagonally on low loaders can be complex. To avoid unwanted movement of the load and the resulting potential injuries or property damage, professional equipment is essential. For this purpose, SpanSet has developed fibers made from high-performance polyester.

What is particularly impressive is that MaXafe has an exceptionally low elongation of a maximum of 2%, putting it on par with tie-down chains—according to the standards, a tie-down strap can stretch up to 7%. The 50 mm wide tie-down strap provides the same strength as a standard 75 mm strap but is lighter and easier to handle due to the material and weight reduction. MaXafe is therefore a forward-looking heavy-duty tie-down system that stands out for its high strength.

PackNet and PaXafe – Load Securing with Nets

SpanSet has developed a range of securing, partition, and covering nets for small transporters, flatbed vehicles, cars, and trailers. The securing and partitioning net PackNet ensures that packages are optimally secured in the vehicle, preventing any damage. The webbing nets are anchored in the tie-down direction with end fittings, securing the cargo firmly against the front wall.

With its PaXafe load securing nets, also made from webbing, SpanSet offers the right solution for every application on trucks and cars. The modular system allows for high flexibility in combining the individual components. All PaXafe nets comply with VDI 2700 sheet 3.3 and are GS certified.

App Certification and Presentation at IAA Transportation 2024

In 2013, SpanSet developed the Tie-Down Calculator App, allowing users to easily calculate the required tie-down straps using their mobile phones. The load securing specialist offers the app for free in five languages on the Google Play Store and the App Store, with over 100,000 downloads. This figure highlights that the Tie-Down Calculator App has become an indispensable and valuable tool for truckers, freight forwarders, and dispatchers. The TÜV SÜD Autopartner certification report, No. P2307210-5, confirms what many users have known and appreciated for a long time.

Now, a load securing calculation comes with a stamp of approval. Expert-verified knowledge packaged in an intuitively usable app.

The certification report will be included in the next app update and is available for download under "Certification Report" on the SpanSet website.

Guest Lecture and Practical Demonstration

The Federal Association of Freight Transport, Logistics, and Waste Management (BGL) is hosting, together with the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the symposium "Load Securing on Commercial Vehicles – From Practice for Practice." This will take place on September 20, 2024, under the moderation of Dr. Werner Andres, Head of the Traffic Safety Department at BGL e.V., in the Convention Center CC Hall 1 A from 10:15 to 10:30 AM.

Werner Glasen (Product Manager, Sales, and Marketing Director at SpanSet) will give a guest lecture on the newly released VDI guidelines 2700 sheet 8 ff., addressing the associated changes and innovations. This will be followed by a practical demonstration of the Car-/TruckFix vehicle transport securing systems by our Key Account Manager Marc Böhme, held on the exhibition grounds from 13:10 to 14:00.
