SpanSet UK, TEHO Ropes and QMT in Singapore
- Successful international partnerships built on trust and shared values.
Strategically positioned at the extremity of the Malay Peninsula, where the Indian Ocean connects to the South China Sea via the Strait of Malacca, Singapore is one of the world’s busiest ports and trading centres. This dynamic nation has a diverse economy with major industries including Oil and Gas, manufacturing, construction and Logistics.
Over 25 years ago SpanSet began trading in Singapore through TEHO Ropes who were well established in the Marine and Lifting sector. Working closely with Lim See Hoe and Anthony Tan, Tony Eaden our then MD established a successful partnership. As the business developed and SpanSet moved into Height Safety the team at TEHO searched for a suitable distributor for the new product lines.
QMT was a successful supplier of PPE to the main industry sectors in Singapore. Known for the quality of its products and services and for continually driving up industry health and safety standards, this family run business had a real understanding of the market and local business culture.
Initially working with QMT through TEHO Ropes it later became clear that the complexity and volume of business required more direct contact. SpanSet therefore continue to work with the team at TEHO for the Lifting & Lashing ranges to this day, but now work direct with QMT on the Height Safety solutions.
From that early introduction Tony got to know Ronnie Tan and his brother Benjamin, owners of QMT. To further develop the technical abilities of the team at QMT and strengthen the relationship Tony then introduced Pete Ward the Height Safety Training Manager. Pete and Ronnie soon recognised the potential for a strong business partnership between their respective companies due to shared values, SpanSet’s expertise in Height Safety products and Training and QMT’s excellent reputation within Singapore’s business community.
Over the years the two companies have built a strong partnership. QMT distribute SpanSet Height Safety equipment such as the famous Gotcha Rescue kit and unique DSL2 hybrid lanyard and offer HS Training on facilities based on SpanSet UK’s training structures. Pete Ward, now the MD at SpanSet has gone on to introduce other staff to the relationship as have Ronnie and Benjamin at QMT, but the original values and trust remain.
The workforce in Singapore is driven by migrant labour with many languages spoken - QMT offer quality training which is visually and practically based. SpanSet, who understand training delivery and are experts in the field have worked with QMT to ensure all training is of the highest standard despite any language barriers. #trusttheexperts
The environment in Singapore is demanding on equipment with high humidity and salty air being corrosive, plus many workers using equipment around chemicals. SpanSet’s Research and development team have benefitted from QMT’s feedback and provide equipment specifically suited to working in these harsh conditions – the stainless steel 2X harness for example.
SpanSet are proud to have helped raise the level of Health & Safety education within the market in Singapore via presentations and guidance to given to the Ministry of Manpower, the equivalent to the HSE in the UK.
Staff at QMT and SpanSet work closely together daily and support each other at various international exhibitions. Firm friendships have been made and both companies look forward to a bright future together.
“We always enjoy good rapport and partnership with Pete and his predecessor, Tony. We are proud to be part of a reputable company supplying quality lifting and lashing products to the industries. And we would like to continue this special relationship for many more good years to come.” Anthony TAN - TEHO Ropes Singapore.
