Meet The Team

Ruth Halsall - Material Handling Supervisor

What name/nickname do you prefer to be called?

Ruth or Ruthy.

If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be?

Material Handling Supervisor. Manage the work through the shop floor and manage relevant staff.

My role is to give realistic time scales on manufacturing, checking we have all the necessary materials and capacity required to fulfil the orders. I work closely with other departments including Customer Support, Purchasing and Despatch to ensure all runs smoothly.

An important part of my role is to make sure all staff are given the reassurance that they can speak to me about any issues they feel, be it either work related or personal.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

Every day is different working at SpanSet and I like the challenges the job gives me, though it can be a bit hair raising at times when deadlines are due!

I really enjoy working with my colleagues many of who I have known for many years.

Career progression - When I joined SpanSet as a machinist, I had never used a computer! Now, thanks to the support I have been given and various courses SpanSet have encouraged me to attend I have improved my skills – and I am now more than confident on computers 😊.

What are your hobbies?

Countryside walking with my family and our dogs, followed by a good pub for a meal.

I love being out in the countryside, seeing the wildlife and watching the seasons change - although I’m not that keen on Winter!

What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?

I like to help our local animal rescue centre – Greyhound Gap in Congleton and I’m also a member of Dogs Trust where I adopt a dog called Rosie – I enjoy receiving updates about her throughout the year.

Tui my Jackchow is very, very loving and adores his walks and visits to the pub,

Coco is a Chorkie who I rescued nearly two years ago, she had a very bad start in life and still has issues but I’m getting there.  She also likes the walks and the doggy treats in the pub!

Ruth and son Adam, with Tui & Coco enjoying a winter walk at Tatton Park. (Despite not being keen on winter)
