Meet The Team
Philip E Ganner - Commercial Manager
What name/nickname do you prefer to be called?
I’m known as Phil – if people call me Philip, I know I’m in trouble 😊
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be?
‘Trouble shooter / Customer Problem Solver’. I’ve worked at SpanSet for 30+ years and have seen the company grow from 2 portacabins bolted onto a workshop to the excellent purpose-built manufacturing and Training facility we have today. I began my career with SpanSet focusing on Load Control with the brief to help develop SpanSet products into the Transport & Logistics Industry and the MOD. We were successful, with a wide range of products now standard issue with many customers, from Capcha keeping workers safe in the haulage industry to noise reduction systems keeping equipment, ammunition and even beer secure on board ship.
What do you enjoy about the work you do?
My working relationships with customers, some of whom I’ve known for over 30 years!
It’s so satisfying being told of a particular problem by a customer, being able to help solve it and knowing it was a job well done when the repeat business comes in. The day I no longer get a buzz out of solving these problems, helping customers to do something more safely and efficiently is the day I hang up my ratchet straps!
I’ve visited some interesting places during my career – I’ve been on Aircraft Carriers and Destroyers and even inside submarines. I have also worked with all sorts of industries from helping Hovis to deliver loaves without damage, the Royal Mail to deliver safely and Oakley to build large horseboxes and keep their workforce safe.
What are your hobbies?
Many and varied 😊. I love walking whether along the coastal paths of Cornwall or to the top of the highest mountains in the UK – Ben Nevis , Snowdon and Scafell Pike.
I fight the flab by swimming regularly and enjoy badminton, spin classes and dancing with my wife, especially Salsa and Ceroc – great fun! We also love holiday cruises and have visited lots of fascinating destinations.
What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?
I volunteered for the Lions for many years and as I have a trailer would help deliver parcels at Christmas to people who needed them.
I am community minded and support many local projects, from the badminton club to organising locals to cut back a large hedge that was forcing school children to walk in the road – the path is much safer now thankfully😊
At the top of Ben Nevis.

For work, Phil has boarded aircraft carriers, destroyers and even submarines! In his leisure time though, Phil swaps military vessels for cruise ships to lots of fascinating destinations.
