Meet The Team -
Steve Heaton - Instructor
What name/nickname do you prefer to be called?
Ste or Steve is fine with me.
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do here, what would it be?
Height Safety Instructor. I joined SpanSet as I was ready for a change in career.
I had worked in the Telecoms industry for many years and was involved in the commissioning of new installations when Orange & T-Mobile merged to become EE. As I’ve worked up broadcast towers, telecoms masts, pylons and on rooftops I’m able to draw on this experience when training candidates.
What do you enjoy about the work you do?
The variety: meeting lots of different people and working in a wide range of locations including Wembley Stadium and the O2 Arena – it was the day before the Brit Awards and I was listening to the bands rehearse as I ran a training course!
What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work?
I don’t get a huge amount of free time between work and family life, but when I do, I help with my little boy’s football team, either on a Thursday night training session, or a Saturday morning match day. Always love putting up the nets and corner flags on a cold day with the wind and driving rain.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy running and cycling so I spend a lot of my free time managing my fitness.
I’m a huge rugby league fan and I have followed my local team St Helens for the past 28 years, standing on the terraces and cheering on the most successful team in Superleague history 😊
