Free! SpanSet Technical Day
However Challenging the Load - Lift it Safely with SpanSet!
Thursday, 18th April 2024
Heavy loads, loads with offset centre of gravity, sharp edges and loads requiring compact and lightweight rigging – all complex lifts with serious consequences if equipment and/or rigging methods fail.
SpanSet are holding a FREE Technical Day at our factory and headquarters in Middlewich, Cheshire to explore a range of Industry lifting challenges and the many solutions SpanSet offer.
What’s involved?
Through a day of live practical demonstrations, SpanSet’s Lifting Team will highlight various safety issues encountered by workers, discuss the theories on how these problems can be solved and showcase a wide range of solutions applicable for your business – with plenty of time for questions and input.
Who is this FREE Lifting Technical Day suitable for?
If you are involved in planning, supervising or conducting complex lifts this event will be of benefit - Lifting Appointed Persons, Lifting Engineers etc.
Our ever-popular Technical Days are open to customers old and new, wanting to learn more about how to Lift challenging loads safely and how SpanSet’s latest innovations in one of our core sectors can be of benefit.

Subjects to be covered
Manual handling - Lifting Heavy Loads without breaking the Rigger
The heavier the load, commonly the heavier and bulkier the sling required to lift it safely.
Handling these slings is a serious issue with their weight and size hard on the Rigger. Bulky, heavy slings are difficult to rig and can cause several problems especially where space is restricted.
SpanSet manufacture a range of high-performance Magnum slings – lighter, more compact and abrasion resistant.
The Team will demonstrate how these modern slings can make light work of heavy loads – your Riggers will thank you!
Stop the waste of worn-out slings
1000’s of slings are discarded on sites every day in the UK due to wear and tear.
At a time when industry is looking to reduce its carbon footprint, this is a waste of global resources. It is also a waste of money!
Using our 50-tonne horizontal test bed the Team will put a range of slings (up to 8t) through their paces – abrasion, sharp edges etc then test the slings to see how each has fared – including SpanSet’s SupraplusX - compact, tough and cost effective.
Friction on the surface area of a round sling is inevitable during the rigging process. We will explore how this wear and tear can be significantly reduced by using more compact roundslings.
The results will interest anyone wanting to cut down on waste.

Slings and sleeves - turning and manoeuvring loads with unusual shapes and/or sharp edges
Moving and turning a load such as a steel coil with extremely sharp edges has the potential to damage the sling and the load.
A live demonstration will illustrate how SpanSet’s Secutex provides protection for the load, the sling and most importantly - the rigger.
Cut slings under tension are dangerous!
Levelling the Load - The Challenges of Asymmetrical Loads
Lifting, manoeuvring and balancing loads with an offset centre of gravity is more efficient with an adjustable sling.
This subject will be explored in detail by our expert Lifting Team using a range SpanSet’s VarioWeb slings and a variety of awkward loads.

What else is happening?
There will be presentations on a range of innovative SpanSet lifting products by our colleagues from SpanSet Germany - the Centre of Excellence for Lifting within the Group.
Other Details
Lunch will of course be provided. We will be running a fun competition using ‘NoCut’ technology (how good are your cutting skills?) with prizes for the winners.
